Specializing in Jewish weddings & celebrating all love. Take me to photograph your wedding NYC, LA, Boston, anywhere!
If you’ve been searching for the perfect Jewish wedding card, look no further than NJG Doodles. I was SO excited when I stumbled upon this incredible small business (because of a posting on Hey Alma Classifieds, classic) because it fills a niche that I’ve never seen represented in the greeting card industry! Founded by Bex Schulman, this unique Jewish greeting card company is bringing a fresh, modern twist to traditional Jewish celebrations.
I had the chance to chat with Bex and learn more about NJG Doodles and its origins. I started by asking Bex to share what inspired her to start NJG Doodles, and how has the business evolved since its creation.
Bex shared: “When my cousin was planning her wedding and searching for a meaningful way to ask witnesses to sign her ketubah (Jewish marriage contract), there wasn’t much on the market she was excited about. I saw an opportunity to create something on-trend and special for Jewish couples and people who resonate with Jewish culture.
From there, the brand was born, beginning with the signature “Will You Sign Our Ketubah” card pack. NJG Doodles also offers bespoke greeting cards for life’s milestones, traditions, and everyday moments. There is a “Stuff To Schlep Home” notepad, all featuring my original illustrations.
With technology and how people live so chronically online, I think there’s a real desire for that human-to-human connection that people are constantly craving. Getting a card in the mail or receiving a handwritten note to celebrate a milestone goes such a long way.”
One of the most striking aspects of NJG Doodles’ designs is the way they blend a fresh, contemporary aesthetic with the rich traditions of Jewish culture. Bex explains, “My brand is super authentic to my personality. I want the NJG Doodles brand voice to be that of the universal Jewish older sister, which comes completely naturally to me since I am the oldest of three. I identify as culturally Jewish and grew up in a reformed synagogue and community, so the designs and illustrations reflect my experience and connection to Judaism as a young person who loves art, color, maximalism, and close community.”
This is the card that convinced me I absolutely needed to reach out to Bex! If you don’t know, the ketubah is a legal marriage document that needs to be signed by two witnesses – and it’s a big honor to be asked to be one of those witnesses!
Bex’s “Will You Sign Our Ketubah?” contemporary Jewish wedding card has become a beloved product among Jewish couples, offering a cute and clever way to ask loved ones to participate in their wedding. She explains, “The wedding industry is full of creative ideas for people to personalize their celebrations. We’ve all seen the bridesmaid proposal gifts and bachelorette goodie bags which are all so fun. I felt like there could be something that couples could give to their ketubah witnesses — a tangible keepsake to celebrate and honor such a special ask.”
The response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing that they’ve never seen anything like these cards before. Bex herself recently used the cards to ask a dear, life-long friend to sign her own ketubah, making the experience even more meaningful.
When it comes to designing new cards, Bex finds endless inspiration in the rich tapestry of Jewish culture. “Jewish culture is a goldmine for inspiration — the symbolism, humor, food, niche celebrations, funny conversations with my Grandma, and the mishegas of everyday life. Truly, there’s an endless supply of material,” she says. “My goal is to incorporate on-trend design and color into traditional celebrations. From there, I get inspiration from other artists, my community in Brooklyn, and photography.”
Expanding the Collection and Dreaming Big Looking to the future, Bex has exciting plans to expand NJG Doodles’ offerings, including a full wedding collection and commissioned designs for custom stationery. She’s also dreaming big when it comes to collaborations, saying, “I’m manifesting a collab with Susan Alexandra. I adore her brand and Judaica collection — it’s a huge source of inspiration for me! I am also exploring wholesale partners, and it would be a dream to partner with Zabars, Russ + Daughters, and other iconic Jewish delis and storefronts.”
When asked what advice she would give to couples looking to incorporate meaningful, personal touches into their wedding day, Bex emphasizes the importance of staying true to yourself. “There are no rules! You get to choose what is meaningful for you in this exciting milestone, no one else. If that means forgoing certain traditions or creating your version or variation, so be it! The celebration should be totally authentic to you and your partner, so lean into that. And above all else, prioritize holding space for your joy and excitement throughout!”
With her contemporary flaire, passion for Jewish culture, and commitment to helping people celebrate life’s special moments, Bex Schulman and NJG Doodles are bringing a fresh, modern perspective to the world of Jewish greeting cards. Whether you’re looking for the perfect way to ask someone to sign your ketubah or simply want to share a little joy with your loved ones, NJG Doodles has something special to offer.
